New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 was wrapped up last week after eight days of runway shows. There are many reasons to love New York Fashion Week, from the amazing runway shows to the best street styles and celebrity looks, but we have to say the things that we look forward to the most are the shoes, and here is the shoe report of runway Spring 2015 New York Fashion Week.
Alexander Wang Spring Summer 2015 runway is all about sneakers, not as the shoes but as the inspirations. The designer took the inspiration from sneakers and transformed it into fashion dresses, handbags and sneaker inspired fashion shoes.
“Sneakers! They’re such an infatuation of my generation. But I wanted to reinterpret and manipulate the ideas and mix them with the cutting of Madame Grès and Fortuny.” said Alexander Wang before the show.
Well, his ideas are well executed with bright colored mesh dresses, mesh belt, athletic neckline, vests inspired of sneaker toe box and the handbags with a bottom like sneaker outersoles.
The sneakers are everywhere except on the foot. For the shoes, the designer delivered the concept with suede piped net fabric and look like narrow elastic bands knitted upper. The sandals and mule are designed with sneaker elements like foam inflated leather straps with Velcro closure, and extended upper edges for the side and toe box trim, which curve up your toes if the size is incorrect.
The designer especially spice up the shoe collection with the molded “L” shape hollow heel/wedge on two shoe designs, which connected to the upper on the front and back but unsupported in the middle. Midsole, which has been left out on these designs, is the backbone of fashion shoes and hinged with comfort. We are afraid your feet would disagree with these intricate designs after a long walk.
The line of Alexander Wang offered what one wants out of a sneaker in an unexpected way. At the end of the show, Wang run on the stage with the inspiration on his own feet, Nike sneakers.
Altuzarra Spring Summer 2015 collection is inspired by “Rosemary’s Baby” and Barry Lyndon. The show opened with the sixties gingham checks at the beginning, and ended with the eighteenth-century floral. “Both movies are so beautiful,” Altuzarra said, “but it’s an ill-fated, sinister beauty. Which I liked.”
A narrow, sexily slit or unbuttoned skirt with a tailored blazer, his signature is codified with these elements in the collection of Spring 2015. “Once you find your voice and find your path, you are able to build on it,” the designer said during a preview.
Altuzarra matched his romantic, seductive, sexy cloth with very feminine single sole footwear, featuring leather strip caged toe box and slim ankle straps, although the single toe strap design is a bit cliché after over exposed for several seasons. The loop on the back upper suggested they were designed with double ankle straps. But for some reason, the designer decided to go with just one for the runway.
Sold a majority stake in his brand to the investment firm InterLuxe, Jason Wu is newly funded and planning a flagship and an expanded accessories range.
On the runway of Spring Summer 2015, Jason Wu is up for a revival of ‘Sportswear’ in its original New York City sense. “embracing the roots of American sportswear,” he said before his show, “The one word I keep thinking is beauty, as usual, it’s a refined take on American sportswear.”
For his Spring 2015 collection, Jason Wu treated the fabric with subtle print, luxurious beading, silk tweed and turned them into skirt suits, pants, shirts, T-shirts and shirt-dresses, which are easy and practical clothes for women achievers who earn their own living.
The shoes on the runway are equally practical, with reasonable heel height and small platform on the front. The thong sandal might not be the best choice if your toes are naturally apart. But the mule is a beauty. Patched leather upper with different texture directions is a fine twist, luxurious, easy and unfussy, precisely defined the essentials of New York designs.
For Spring 2015 collection, Victoria Beckham designed shoes for the first time, no collaboration with Manolo Blahnik but fully VB designed.
“I’m really excited about those – for me it was really important to do shoes this season so I could really finish off my silhouette,” Victoria said after her show. “I always said I would start doing shoes when I couldn’t find what I wanted myself and now was the time for me to start doing that. We don’t know if we’re going to sell them yet – that wasn’t really the thinking.”
The shoes were crafted in her own atelier in London. “Creating all elements of the collection under one roof enabled me to complete and strengthen the silhouette and this has been key in the design journey for me,” explained Beckham.
To our surprise, there is no stiletto in sight on the runway of Victoria Beckham’s very first shoe line, but chunky heel platform sandals and pointed toe loafer flats with floral pattern or leopard print, nothing ladylike as the designer herself usually spotted. For a women who once claimed she did not know how to walk in flats, we would expect something much more sexy and feminine.
Victoria Beckham is setting up shop on London’s Dover Street, which is scheduled to open later this month. “It’s forced me to readdress my signatures,” she said at a preview. Branching beyond the sexy, fitted dresses with which she made her first big splash might not be easy, the designer is working steadily and methodically to extend her repertoire well beyond her formula for cocktails and events.
Oscar de la Renta Spring 2015 collection was perfumed with the atmosphere of mid-century couture, packed with nature and exquisite details. De la Renta found inspiration in the outdoors. The show was started with oversize gingham in pink, baby blue, or black and growing into florals everywhere.
“There is no one on earth who makes a woman feel more beautiful than Oscar de la Renta,” said supermodel Karlie Kloss on her Instagram feed post show.
The shoes on the runway of Oscar dela Renta Spring 2015 are feminine, polished and lush with color. For casual wear, the designer introduced fringe detailed loafers with contrasted colors for the upper, featuring very low block heels and laced up front.
The strap sandals and flats are embellished with feathers. The pumps are heavily laced with embroidery details. All very gorgeous and will soon find their way to the red carpet.
